Sustainable & Accessible: Why Iris Lodge Alpacas Prioritizes Ethical Animal Tourism

The demand for ethical travel and inclusive outdoor spaces is higher than ever. When planning a trip involving animals, modern travelers want to know: How are the animals cared for? Is the property environmentally responsible? Can family members with limited mobility fully participate?

At Iris Lodge Alpacas, we built our entire agritourism business around two unbreakable pillars: Animal Welfare and Universal Accessibility.

Our Animal-First Philosophy

Unlike commercial livestock properties, Iris Lodge Alpacas operates purely as an animal sanctuary and educational farm.

  • Permanent Family Members: Our herd of over 450 animals—including alpacas, llamas, Wiltipoll sheep, and horses—are kept strictly as permanent pets. None are ever sold, traded, or sent to market.

  • Choice-Based Interactions: We never force our animals to interact. Our paddocks are designed with expansive free-roaming zones, meaning our alpacas only approach visitors when they choose to engage.

  • Award-Winning Sustainability: We have been proudly ECO Certified (Nature Tourism) by Ecotourism Australia since 2021. Our regenerative farming methods protect local biodiversity, completely eliminate harsh chemical pesticides, and safeguard natural wildlife corridors for endangered native bird species.

Leading the Way in Accessible & NDIS Tourism

We firmly believe that connecting with nature and animals should be an experience open to everyone. Working closely with Destination NSW and regional NDIS providers, we have optimized our Jilliby farm to support visitors with diverse mobility, physical, and sensory needs.
