Meet Our Alpacas – Behind the Scenes at Iris Lodge

Ever wondered what life is like for our alpacas when they’re not stealing the hearts of guests? Here’s your behind-the-scenes look at a day in the life of our herd.

At sunrise, the alpacas are already up, grazing quietly in the mist-covered paddocks. Each one has their own personality. Bobby is our curious leader, while Daisy loves a back scratch and keeps close to her bestie, Mocha.

After their morning health check and hay delivery, they get ready for guest arrival. They instinctively know when it’s brunch time—lining up at the gate with those irresistible eyes.

Once guests arrive, it’s time for the highlight: hand-feeding. Lucerne chaff and alpaca pellets are favourites! Our alpacas are gentle and used to children and visitors with special needs. It’s a therapeutic and joy-filled experience for all involved.

Once the guests depart, the herd rests, sunbathes, or rolls in the dust. They’re then off to a to a fresh paddock as part of our sustainable grazing system.

From sunrise to sundown, their days are relaxed, enriching, and full of connection—just how we like it.
